We meet usually on the fourth Thursday afternoon in each month. Our group is open to all and members of our church are encouraged to bring along friends. We aim to build up Christians friendships, besides getting to know the beauty of creation in south and east Dorset and west Hampshire. Most walks end with refreshments at tea shops or even out of car boots when in remoter areas!
There was no walk in February due to heavy rains, but in March, 17 of us walked four miles along the seashore from Highcliffe to Avon Beach and back. We finished off with a tea to celebrate our leader's birthday. In April, 18 of our group walked on a fine day from the car park at Fritham, New Forest towards Frogham using the cycle track and then through Amberwood Inclosure, waded the Latchmore Brook, walked in Sloden Inclosure and returned to the car park via Fritham Plain, a distance of five miles.
In May Andrew Skinner kindly lead a four mile walk using Breamore House restaurant as a base. This took in the surrounding W. Hants. fields, woods and the Miz Maze. Ron was back on duty in June to lead a five miles walk in Wareham Forest, which used Sherford Bridge as a starting point. In July we based ourselves at a car park near the Compton Abbas Airstrip Cafe. Carol lead eight walkers on a short walk over Clubmans Down and Fontmell Down and back to the Airstrip Cafe. Ron meanwhile lead 11 walkers on a fairly strenuous 4 mile walk up and down the hills in and around Compton Abbas village, before rejoining the other walkers at the above cafe. Great views of S. Wilts. and N. Dorset were enjoyed by all, plus the sight of small aircraft continually taking off and landing at the airstrip.
Our next walks are on 26.08.10; 16.09.10, 28.10.10 and 25.11.10. For more details please contact Ron Hopkins on 01202 882703.
